NEET counselling is a well-planned process that involves various stages. It is important to attend each step carefully:
Registration
- First of all, candidates need to register online by visiting the official website of MCC (www.mcc.nic.in).
- During registration, students need to fill in their NEET roll number, date of birth, mobile number and email ID.
- A security deposit is also required along with the registration.
Choice Filling
- After registration, students need to choose their preference of colleges and courses.
- They are allowed to fill in as many choices as they want – but must be very careful as these choices will be used for seat allotment.
Seat Allotment
- MCC allots seats as per the available seats and the rank and preferences of the students through a computerised process.
- If a student gets a seat, they need to download the allotment letter.
Reporting & Document Verification
- After getting the seat, the student has to report to the respective college.
- Here all the required documents such as mark sheet, caste certificate, NEET score card, etc. are checked.
Round 2, Mop-up Round and Stray Vacancy
- Students who do not get a seat in the first round or wait for a better option can participate in Round 2.
- The mop-up round is for unfilled seats, and the stray vacancy round gives the last remaining students a chance.
List of Required Documents
The following documents are required at the time of reporting for NEET counselling:

- Option Locking: It is mandatory to lock the options after choice filling. If you don’t do this, the system considers the last choices filled by you as locked.
- Free Exit Facility: If you are allotted a seat in the first round, you can opt for a ‘Free Exit’ by not reporting. But this cannot be done after Round 2.
AIQ vs State Quota Counseling
- All India Quota (AIQ): Counselling is done by MCC for 15% of government seats across India.
- State Quota Counseling: Counselling process is done by the respective state government for 85% of seats.
